Covolt manages business energy assets for over 700 companies. A growing customer portfolio brought with it large amounts of data. It was up to Blenddata to make that data work for them. As part of the energy transition, more and more industrial and agricultural companies have assets such as solar panels, charging stations and batteries. Covolt optimises the technical and financial efficiency of energy installations. They unburden customers by managing, optimising and controlling sustainable energy installations with smart software.

A complex force field

Willian van de Sande, operational director of Covolt, says: “We have about 700 customers, all with their own energy landscape that provides data per quarter of an hour or even per minute. We try to give our software customers transparent and clear insight into the results of our services. For example, how much energy a solar installation has generated or how much return has been obtained from a battery by trading on various energy markets. Our existing solution was not sufficiently scalable as we have grown significantly in recent years”

Making great strides with great knowledge and skill

Covolt’s data team wants to make big strides when the collaboration with Blenddata begins. The talks were not about data but about business challenges. Willian van de Sande: “Blenddata’s commitment and solution orientation is a big plus. To their credit, they really dived into our business. With a lot of knowledge and expertise, they took us to the next level. Our desire was to eventually do it ourselves, so Blenddata provided training to leave knowledge behind. We now have our own data team that continues to build on their solution.”

Sharing information with customers

Based on its core value of transparency, Covolt is keen to share information with customers. They want to know why you make certain decisions and what the results are. The platform built by Blenddata facilitates the generation of reports in Covolt’s Energy Management Software. “Thanks to the platform, customers get the insight we promised them,” he says.

Stability important prerequisite

Based on actual data, decisions are made on whether to turn on solar panels or a battery or not. Because Covolt customers want to count on this continuously, Blenddata offers a service contract with a 24-hour response time.

Covolt’s pipeline in brief

  • Control data on e.g. price, consumption and charging are logged every few minutes.
  • Data is aggregated every 15 minutes. From this, daily data is created.
  • Based on a reporting template, the app shows valuable insights.
  • Monthly reports in the app show what you have consumed and earned.
