Unlocking news and trends from various sources through a global data platform.
Reusable building blocks running on Rabobank's global data platform.
Better disclosure of financial trends and news to internal stakeholders.
The international Wholesale & Rural Data Analytics division serves corporates in the food & agri sector. Senior Product Lead Jordi Smits manages a team of about 20 developers and data analytics translators. Their BI solutions translate data into value.
“As a department, we are very close to the front-office business. We work for relationship managers and other stakeholders serving large Rabobank customers. That’s why I was looking for a party that can build a platform and also do something on the front-end. We make high-quality data solutions such as reports and applications for the front-end of the business, most of which we want to make reusable.
The Wholesale & Rural Data Analytics department works from an in-house developed global data platform that is deployed across the organisation. Jordi: “Not all data sources are automatically where they need to be. We want data to be available in the right places and deliver value.” Rabobank engaged Blenddata for two projects.
Several internal stakeholders want to stay up to date with news available through different media. “News data from newspapers, for example, we buy globally. Our challenge is how to get that news shared with people linked to our customers. Say you are a relationship manager of Heineken. Then you don’t want to get a thousand news stories thrown at you daily, that’s not manageable. Using AI, the news is now categorised and tuned so that our relationship managers receive relevant news. Blenddata has also helped think through a targeting architecture to eventually give the analyses on the news articles a place on our global data platform, so that we reuse our analyses wherever possible.”
“Through external parties and from our customers themselves, we get financial data on the companies we serve as Rabobank globally, think annual figures and ratings. We also want to make that data available to our relationship managers and other internal stakeholders. By using AI, they now get proactive signals from the market, for instance about certain trends that customers might need to address. We store this prescricptive data so that it can be reused via our own data platform.”
Blenddata looks for ways to apply the latest coding innovations directly to client projects. “Blenddata has brought us to take another critical look at our tech stack and where necessary initiate innovation on it. In this way, we became even more familiar with the capabilities we already had in place but could deploy even better.”
“During the collaboration, Blenddata has improved the quality and architecture of our data. What they have built meets the strict compliance and security requirements of our global platform.”

“The trick is to reuse strategic components, these data building blocks land on our global platform, an infrastructure we built ourselves. Everything running on it has to be compliant and secure. Because Blenddata has thought through how best to use our infrastructure, we are achieving optimal performance levels in these two projects.”
“As a bank, it is quite special that we work with such a niche party as Blenddata, because we usually fall back on the big consulting companies. Fortunately, I don’t always have to go off the beaten track if there is a better solution. You want difference makers and we found them at Blenddata. The collaboration falls back on the personal click with engineers Lars and Ward.”
“We are now further along as a team. Blenddata has written documentation so that everything is transferable and reusable. The transformation of that data is woven into the code.
